The First Afternoon in Munich

October 13, 2011

overcast 52 °F

Okay... finally got this blog thing figured out. For some reason the site needed verification that it was me and I couldn't get into a second gmail account on Keith's Ipad. Thanks to Elizabeth the problem is fixed so here we go.

We arrived in Munich on time and with no problems. But it did take 18 hours to get here. It makes one wonder why anyone travels. Lufthansa was great and had nice reclining seats that got so flat it was almost like a bed. We got a cab and arrived at the Hotel Trobrau. Keith had booked this on line which always seems iffy but I have to say it was a great choice. The hotel is lovely, small and perfectly located. We got showered and headed out to explore. We are very close to The Marienplatz which is a huge walking area in the Old Town section of the city. One part of the area has butcher shops and outdoor frmer's market type booths. The other section is a cobblestone square with avenues of stores and eating venues leading to it from each end. We went in to see St. Peters church. It was gorgeous with an amazing gold alter and statues all around the perimeter. We went to dinner at a place called Opatija. Ordering was a bit of a challenge even with some English descriptions. I ordered a plate of mixed meats figuring something on there would be edible. Keith ordered what they described as a pork chop. Mine came and a lot of it was tasty. Keith's came and resembled a chicken fried steak more than a pork chop. He spent the entire meal scraping the breading off of it. Then it was back to the hotel to turn in.

Keith was pretty tired. For some reason he decided to sleep from LA to Chicago and barely at all from Chicago to Munich. Not a good plan. He went in the bathroom to ge ready and the first thing I hear is a crash. He had somehow knocked the toilet paper roller off. it wasn't broken just on the floor. Then he grabbed for some kleenex and the cover from that came off. The maid must not have gotten it on correctly as both have been fine since but I have never heard so many sighs out of a grown man. It sounded more like the Rosenberg ladies. Of course sympathetic me is laughing which never makes anything better but I couldn't contain myself. Off to bed and two secnds later he was snoring so I guess he was't too uppset by all the laughter. Tomorrow we rise and shine anxious to tackle Munich.
